Is escapism the death of art?

Is escapism the death of art?

“Today, institutions are more and more embedded in the fabric of the culture industry. Consequently, two pernicious trends have emerged: The first one is the pressure to create an interactive experience, which most often simply refashions the widespread conceptual apparatus of the 90s. The immersive dimension of so-called relational aesthetics is thus entirely absorbed in the escapist logic of the entertainment industry. The second is that art institutions foster a moral community, more often than not under the auspices of identity politics.”
