CLARA MEISTER in conversation with Berlin-based artist SAÂDANE AFIF (+ guests) about his current art quest. Initiated at the Biennale of Marrakech in 2014 with the performance Souvenir: La Leçon de Géometrie, it  takes today the form of a fashion collection titled “Solid Figure” with Starstyling, Berlin, and two days later an exhibition titled “Übertitel: Das Heptaeder” at Mehdi Chouakri, Berlin. Nobody knows where this will end.

At Spike Berlin, Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse 45, 7:30 pm

Defined as ‘post-conceptual’, Saâdane Afif’s work focuses on interpretation, exchange and circulation. He works in various media (performance, objects, sculptures, text, posters and works in neon). The complex procedures he uses are not categorised under any specific discipline. All of his works are subject to a continuous process of alteration. He integrates elements of art history, music, poetry and dance into his work, sometimes inviting authors to write texts based on existing artworks for other artists to set to music or use in drama.

Clara Meister is a curator with a focus on performance and language. Her PhD on the voice as a medium and material in contemporary art was published in 2018 by Edition Metzel. She invited Saâdane Afif in 2012 for a solo exhibition the „Busker of the Grey Line“ at Ludlow 38 in New York. She is currently the Associate Curator of the Director‘s Office at Gropius Bau.
