The final days of the luxury department store Barneys New York felt like the end of an epoch: tragic, strangely beautiful, and utterly chaotic. Visiting this emblem of late capitalist demise, New York’s creative class had one last chance to get what had once been supposedly made with them in mind, but had come to feel completely out of reach. Cashmere sweaters and mink fingerless gloves. No credit card needed.
