"One of the things that distinguishes DIS as a curatorial project is its steadfast commitment to a clear aesthetic vision: the group favours glossy, poppy art that replicates the look and speed of mass media to engage with the gig economy, suburbanisation, youth culture, high theory, and precarity. Such work can be (and often is) critiqued on the grounds that it is too close to – and perhaps indistinguishable from – the aesthetics of corporate entertainment that it references. Certainly its proximity to advertisement and television is the most disconcerting aspect of the art that DIS champions: reverent to the styles it riffs on, it can’t be easily categorised as parody or even as self-aware critique."
