In cooperation with Kunsthalle Wien, the new season at Tanzquartier Wien is going to kick off with Antarctica. A Symposium on Alienation, which will include culture critic Nina Power and author Marina Vishmidt, among others. As part of the symposium's programme, Antonia Baehr, Latifa Laâbissi & Nadia Lauro will also present the performance Consul und Meshie. In the early 20thcentury, the two eponymous chimpanzees lived among people and finally started to regard themselves as people. Antonia Baehr and Latifa Laâbissi will step into the identities of the chimpanzees and will play with ideas loosely based on these events. Inside a limousine, they will dismantle phrases from populist speeches, they will cannibalise poses and iconic dances or they will embroider feminist slogans. From October 11th to October 13th, Amanda Piña's/nadaproductions' group choreography DANZA Y FRONTERA will focus on a precolonial dance from the border areas between Mexico and the US, which is these days only performed as part of the current narco-culture. A contemporary, pop-cultural appropriation will take place in which indigenous practices, colonial narratives, hip-hop culture and mysticism seem intertwined.

Starting in late October, there will be a new programme focus entitled Happiness: Linda Samaraweerová will offer a radical and reduced sensuality in reply to a society obsessed with pleasure. In Princess, Filipino dancer Eisa Jocson will adopt the physicality and language of Snow White only to deconstruct the normative identity structure of the Disney figurine. Anne Lise Le Gac – whose weird and trashy performance Grand Mal at the TQW opening in January already garnered much acclaim – will participate in what will be a fictitious meeting of some colourful characters seeking eternal life at a spa hotel. Finally, Ana Borralho & João Galante and a group of Twentysomethings from Vienna will create a documentary performance about the pursuit of happiness.
