Exhibition Histories

Fast Forward (1999)

"I’m not sure you get very far by comparing fashion and art. It may be that Helmut Lang, who these days understands himself entirely as an artist, demonstrates that art and fashion are ultimately apples and oranges. They may find themselves periodically and intensely attracted to each other, but they are distinct realms. In the end, Viktor & Rolf and Hussein Chalayan, who both had work in the exhibition, became fashion designers in the con- ventional sense. No one carried on in a state of being in-between."
