What was the style of the 80s?

"Maybe the idea was never to be so original. Maybe it was always meant to determine a stance. To fall into a category was to feel at home somewhere during a time when everything was abruptly commodified. We tend to imagine all of the 80s as one sharp turn towards selling out, every cliché being fed back to us, evil artists making pop sculptures and masculine paintings.
