This year’s New York Fashion Week made it clearer than ever that fashion has not been immune to the great weirding. In the wake of the retail apocalypse, nothing was what it was supposed to be. Sure, there were still runway shows, dinners, parties, vodka sponsorship, and green juice shots, but with art spilling into fashion spilling into theatre, anxiety yielded to performativity and the best shopping was second- hand. Has context collapse opened the door
for a new avant-garde?
