Greene Naftali was among the first New York galleries to set up shop in Chelsea in the mid-1990s. In an interview by Kari Rittenbach, its cofounder Carol Greene talks about how she got started, the real-estate takeover of the city, the financialisation of the art market, her love for painting – and the beach by Cape Cod. 

"In the past, people weren’t interested in future value, they were interested in the present and what they thought that artwork was doing in that moment."
