“In 1981, I had an interesting encounter with the design industrialist Alberto Alessi. He had invited me to his symposium in Berlin where he gave all the participants – people related to design such as Hans Hollein, Peter Cook, and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac – his coffee maker, the famous one designed by Richard Sapper, who was also there. I made coffee with it, and it was thin and watery, not really drinkable. Alessi didn’t believe me, but you could tell by his reaction that he had never made coffee with it. He said: The designer and the technician are also here, we’ll do a test now. We bet on the most expensive wine and started making coffee…”
