“Although he created many Fluxus activities and objects, Maciunas never referred to himself as an artist, but always as an architect and designer, in true Constructivist fashion. In a letter written in 1964 to a young man who had asked for advice on how he might become a Fluxus member Maciunas stated that Fluxus was an anti-professional, anti-art practice. Instead of music, theatre, poetry, fiction, painting, sculpture, artists should divert their energies to socially constructive ends such as industrial design, journalism, engineering, and graphics.‘Fluxus people must obtain their ‘art’ experience from everyday experiences, eating, working etc., – not concerts etc. … Fluxus should become a way of life, not a profession.’
